The State of Delaware is one of the largest employers in the state, and its openings are posted in one place – but the system trips people up. Here’s how to use it.
Everything lives at the state’s job portal, where openings are grouped as Open Competitive, Casual/Seasonal, In-House, Merit Only, Exempt-Non Merit and Internships. As of mid-August 2026 the portal listed 128 Open Competitive openings, 50 Casual/Seasonal, 38 Exempt-Non Merit, 5 In-House and 2 internships.
Two things to know. First, searches match State of Delaware class titles, which often don’t look like the keyword you’d type – after filtering, click “Show All” so you don’t miss postings. Second, every listing carries a hard filing deadline at 11:59 PM on a specific date; miss it and the application won’t be considered. You can also sign up for email notifications of future openings.
In-House and Merit Only postings are restricted to current state employees in Merit System positions who have completed probation, so check the recruitment type before you spend time on an application.
